This taco seasoning recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 cups drained well-cooked or canned chickpeas, liquid reserved
- 1/4-1/2 cup tahini, optional, with some of its oil
- 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil, plus oil for drizzling
- Juice of 1 lemon, plus more as needed
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Mix together first nine ingredients (through black pepper).
- Put all ingredients in a food processor and begin to process; add the chickpea liquid or water as needed to allow the machine to produce a smooth puree.
- Taste and adjust the seasoning, adding more salt, pepper, and/or lemon juice.
Notes: We like to take hummus and vegetables as part of our work lunches; as Tim likes everything taco-flavored, I thought I'd mix it up a bit. It's tasty.

Love the spice!!
This sounds great! Have you ever tried making hummus with garbanzo beans that you let soak in water first? I did a few weeks back and it made me realize I need a much larger and stronger food processor.
That sounds delicious. My husband loves tacos. Maybe I can convince him to eat hummus if it tastes like tacos.
I love the additional taco flavor you used in this - yum!
Stephanie-- I have tried it. You cooked the chickpeas after soaking, right? I didn't notice any difference in my food processor... maybe try cooking them a little longer next time?
Ooo, this looks like something my husband would absolutely love.
Looks great! I take hummus for lunch too, with Triscuits and veggies...and fruit for dessert! I will try this one!
Ooh! I think I'd love this!
Sounds like great seaoning for hummus! I am trying to make roasted chickpeas tonight with Penzey's new chili seaoning, I bet the combination will be similar.
Finally made this today. It is soooo good! Thank you. We will make this often!
It is a delicious recipe, hummus is one of my favorites foods, taco hummus is a perfect idea.
